Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Walt Terrell came to the Mets organization in a trade remembered more for the other piece in the deal—Ron Darling—as the two AA starters joined a struggling organization trading its lone fading star, Lee Mazzilli.

Terrell was the first of the team’s young pitching prospects to make the majors. And while he struggled at times on the hill, he had one of the most memorable days at the plate that a Mets pitcher has ever had. Then, just as he established himself as a solid major league starter, the team traded him for a potential power bat in Howard Johnson.
