Manage episode 333127426 series 2923913
We've all met or known people in our lives who have diabetes. Diabetes is a long-lasting health condition that affects how the body turns food into energy. The food you eat is broken down into sugar and turns into glucose. It is then released into the bloodstream. When the blood sugar goes up, the pancreas is signaled to release insulin, but when you have diabetes, your body cannot make or use insulin well. It then leads to long-term health conditions and, eventually, death. As debilitating as this disease is, there is something we can do about it. One way to combat this disease is to know what it is all about and what we can do to prevent it.
In this episode, we are joined by Kimberly Ellis. She is a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in diabetes education and management, chronic disease prevention & management. Besides being a family nurse specializing in diabetes education, she also owns Ellis Diabetes Education & Consulting, LLC. She will share her expertise and experiences as a nurse dealing with diabetic patients.
