Carlos is a winner of three GA State Championships, and has been ranked one of the top three highest rated players in Georgia continuously since 2002. Under his leadership, the Emory University Chess Team defeated Duke, Yale, and Stanford in 2004. He is the Founder of Chess Atlanta , which increases the chess presence in the metro Atlanta area via school programs, group classes, camps and more.
