If he's known at all, it's for two non-consecutive Presidencies. The only Democrat elected between the Civil War and the 1910's Stephen Grover Cleveland was a different President from Democrats then - and now. His uniquely anti-imperial, frugal and good government mix brought him enormous personal popularity. A stand he took lost him an election.
