Japan's Fugaku supercomputer recently claimed the top spot in the TOP500 list of supercomputers as the world’s most powerful computer. With USA and China locked in a battle for dominance in this field, Japan’s recent success with the Fugaku came from left field and is yet another example of the raw power this technology yields at 415 petaflops running a custom ARM chip, and has been put to work fighting the coronavirus. Steve and Ben discuss the Fugaku and supercomputers, as well as discussing the latest updates on the fight to suppress the coronavirus in Australia, and specifically the state of Victoria.
