The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on cinemas given they have been forced to close for health and safety concerns to prevent the spread of the virus. Streaming services have boomed during the pandemic as people have been in lockdown, which has led to the thought that the public will no longer desire, or feel comfortable watching movies in public arenas such as cinemas once the pandemic has passed. Exacerbating the issue is Hollywood’s accelerated examination of bypassing cinema chains entirely for straight to streaming releases, thus cutting out the fees they would have to pay them for traditional releases. Steve and Ben examine the future of cinema and whether or not the industry will recover, especially in light of so many big releases being pushed back as much as a year.
